Samuel Bermudez’s story is an incomparable example of a dedicated and modern coffee grower. As a manager of agriculture companies and a coffee farmer, he has developed harvesting and post-harvesting processes based on microorganisms native to the farm and incorporated different timings and procedures of fermentation that allow the development of very unique profiles in his coffees. Working alongside his brothers and other members of the family, they have consolidated 5 farms, with El Paraiso being the principal one amongst them. Located in the Piendamo Municipality of the State of Cauca and bordering Nariño State, Cauca is the fourth largest coffee producer of Colombia with 93,627 hectares of coffee plants amongst 114,493 coffee farms, which averages less than one hectare per farm.
Samuel’s coffee is a very special presentation of a Castillo variety coffee that offers an extraordinary profile with a richness of red berries and natural sugar cane that allows it to outshine even the rarest and most expensive varieties. Once you taste this coffee, you will understand what a truly fresh coffee can taste like and change the way you think about coffee. Unique flavors and aromas. We have carried out tastings of this coffee around the world and people are pleading with us to send them more. This coffee certainly has a wow factor.
Normally this coffee is amazing, like 10/10. So sweet and aromatic and smells immediately like strawberries upon brewing. We’ve even had several different batches and all of them were consistently amazing. Until this one. We bought 3 bags to brew at home with our families for Christmas and all of them were terrible. The coffee had no body and no flavor, not even an average cup. Really disappointing.
I feel bad writing this review because when this coffee is good, it’s amazing. However, I’ve tried writing an email with no response in weeks, so here I am.
I decided to get some more bags of what I fell in love with early December to be disappointed in the flavor/notes. I’m not sure what happened but the coffee does not taste the same. The flavors/notes last month were vibrant and the aroma would fill my kitchen. This time around it was less than excited from a regular cup of coffee. Not sure if this was a bad batch but definitely a huge dissapointment. Completely different coffee than what I had a month ago.
I was first blown away at how quickly the beans arrived. 3 days to the US!! But altogether the coffee notes are beautiful, an absolutely amazing cup of coffee which we have thouroughly enjoyed and hope to more in the coming days. I'd say it's easily one of the top 5 cups of coffee my wife and I have had.
I had the honor to try this coffee last year in Colombia and had a crazy craving for it, so I went ahead and ordered online. The delivery came in less than a week, really fast! The beans were very freshly roasted, and the flavor was exactly as I remembered. Samuel Bermudez and Amor Perfecto managed to produce exactly the same flavor profile in this coffee this year. An amazing cocktail of strawberries and cream. I’m obsessed 😍
